    Help with 62 correct starter

I’m having some difficulty finding the correct number for the starter for my ‘62 PG. My 1953-67 NCRS Spec Guide says 1107219 while I find other references (from this site) that says 1107242. Any help greatly appreciated.

GM #1107219 would have been a starter part number. However, I can find no information that it ever existed as a released part. So, I've got to conclude that it was a "stillborn" part. GM #1107242 would be the correct starter for your 1962 with PG.

When purchasing a starter, be careful that you get what you need. Keep in mind that the starter part number is stamped on the starter FRAME (the cylindrical steel major external component of the starter). MANY starters have been through commercial rebuilding operations and have been reconfigured. For such starters the part number stamped on the frame means nothing; it only identifies the starter that the frame was originally part of, not necessarily (and rarely) the starter it has come to be part of.

The original 1107242 you need will have an aluminum nose which mounts to the block with one long and one short mounting bolt. Any found with a cast iron nose have been re-configured by a rebuilder and will not work for your application.

It looks there are several available on different sites. Time to start looking for one that has all the right date codes and is rebuildable.

In virtually all cases, if you find a starter with the correct part number and date you seek, it will be rebuildable and, if necessary, even reconfigurable. You could even use the frame and otherwise build it up into an otherwise brand new starter.
