GM 68-72 Hood Logo (3912706) Colorblind Problem

    Hi folks,

I'm very colorblind and so when I recieived a deduction for repro hood emblem being the wrong color I had no idea.

my problem is that even if I buy a NOS one on an auction site I still dont know if it's faded or the color judges are looking for. I have the TIMJG but cannot see the color correctly so it does not help.

I'd appreciate if someone is a judge or otherwise and could link me to the correct color emblem so that I can just buy one.

    Sorry for the odd request,

    Mick

Not an odd request in the least, speaking as one who is deuteranopia-impaired (red/green). I think the only way around this is to have a non-impaired person be your purchaser. Alternatively, there are color meters for photography that may enable you to "read" the correct coloration via a digital readout of values that you could then use as a comparison. The issue with this is going to be any color cast of the light falling on the piece. You'd need to carry a standard gray card in order to adjust the values of the color cast from the reading.

On a side-note of curiosity, are judges who evaluate color required to pass a standard color blind test or attest that they are not color blind?

Hey Owen thanks for the tips! Yes I am red/green colorblind also. I can see if I can rope someone else into sitting with me while I buy one.

Of the judges I know I imagine they double check with others when they are unsure.

        Michael,

If this is for your 1971 LT-1, then you are looking for a WHITE background outlined in Black. The early 1970 (up to SN 9,590) had a SILVER background outlined in Black.

The visual difference is very subtle, even for us non-optically challenged folk.

Hey Bill, are you talking about the LT-1 decal? if so. yes that was something I only realized recently.

The one I'm talking about is even worse though (for me) 'm talking about 3912706, the red and checkered Chevy logo. the red is impossible for me to match.

Ah! I didn't take note of the P/N you had in the subject line.

My original emblem was faded and chipped so badly, that when I had my vehicle repainted, I opted for a reproduction. (Trim Parts, Inc?) I did keep the original for my collection.
