    Headlight Y

Anyone guide me on how to fix
    drivers headlight bucket. The
inboard bucket arm doesn't reach out far enough to install the retention clip.
The Y stop looks to be installed too deep.
Pics were tricky , best I could get.

    Thank you..

are you sure you have the headlight motor fully seated on the shaft?

The Y stop is not causing your interference. see if there is something on the shaft not allowing the motor to fully seat. Try it without the white bushing first. That will give you a bit more clearance.

I took a measurement inside the motor sleeve and it's 1 inch.
Marked bucket shaft @ 1 in. and re installed motor. It seated right on the mark.. I agree motor should move in more, but it's bottomed out on the shaft.

Me thinks it's just not aligned...

Move the bucket half of its travel. As you push in the motor on the shaft, rotate the bucket back and forth and it might seat.

If not, turn the starwheel a lot, repeat above.

It can be a pain to align the shaft to the inner gear slot sometimes.

The shaft is seated, headlights move up and down.
The problem is the retention stub not reaching out far enough to accept the clip. It almost seems like the bucket pivot has to move closer. Thanks...

Ok. So it must be the plastic sleeve hanging up on the shaft machined edge. Did you try removing it as Joe mentioned? Maybe the sleeve is deformed and needs to be chamfered.

BTW, Sometimes these are simply a pain to get back in. I've done many over the years. Some slip right in ok. Others, not so easy. I remember I spent way too much time at a friend's shop helping him out on a '67 once. I was probably in there, hunched over, for a hour to get both back in. He came out and said, "What's taking so long"! I laughed at him and said... "ok you do it". He said, "No that's ok, you're doing fine. I hate doing those!" I had a very SORE back that night.
