Actually, the Body Shop guy knows his stuff. At his age, he has a point of view, a certain way of doing things and he was given the wrong color paint.. perfect storm.

The way I see it, if he knows his stuff, he should have used his experience and verified the paint color before spraying it on your car.

I agree with Peter, any current restoration shop that wants to provide the best service for his customer will perform a spray out to confirm a proper color match. This is a no-brainer with the current cost of Paint liquid products. Who would want to do the job twice.

I don't believe your guy was given a 66 color. I do believe what he sprayed is PPG's version of Silver Blue. 66 Trophy Blue has a bit of yellow tint in it to give it that twist to the greener side of blue vs the redder side of blue that the 63-4 color has. Current PPG Urethane formulas are the worst match to Classic GM colors. We switched years ago from PPG back to Dupont because of this. The paint is great but the color match is terrible. Now the Dupont/Axalta paint is hard to work with, so we are now onto Diamont (RM) which provides us with a great product and a great match out of the can. It takes little effort to tint to a perfect match with the Diamont product. That being said, we still perform a spray card on every job. At times it may take 5 to 10 alterations to get the color to where everyone is happy. The highest ever in our shop was 53 spray cards. I keep them in my desk to prove a point when someone tells me that paint matching is easy!

Someone once told me "Inspect what you will get or you may not get what you expect!" You may have received what is the normal operating practice for that body shop when shooting a normal overall re-paint. Order the color, shake, reduce and spray! Bang! All done. Make it shiny and deliver it.

Remember paper color samples are ink and vary from metal/fiber glass spray outs.

Before too much discussion about color, closely examine that Trim Tag image.

Appears to me, image is of a reproduction Trim Tag. If you like the way your car looks, then just enjoy it as is.

Speculation would be a prior owner changed Tags as they wanted a different color
