C2 (1966) Rear Single Long Bolt For Spare Tire Carrier

Got the above assembled today and everything works/fits fine. (For Knock Off Spare)Question>In my haste I forgot to put
that little pin through the long bolt on top. My guess it is put there to not have the bolt unscrew so for
as to let the bolt escape through the bottom. Since I am not using no where the total length of the
bolt (so I will not approach the point of it falling through) I see no need to disassemble everything to
put it in. Correct?? Comments Please and Thanks>Larry

You're fine until you actually go to remove it, forget there's no pin, and it's on the ground.

It's a 5 min job at most to remove, install pin and replace.
You can tell what I would do.

Thanks to all that responded. Thought about it and I know you guys are right. Pin is in now
as it is supposed to be. Just like my Dad told me years ago>If you do a project do it right or
do not do it at all! Thanks again>Larry

So I have a pin question. The pin on mine needs replaced and ones available are roll pins. How do I ensure the roll pin stays in place? Do I splay/spread the ends or something like that?

Keith: Don't believe you will have a problem on the above. My pin installation WAS NOT EASY. Had to start it in a vise then
gently pounded it in with a hammer. Pin is in there VERY VERY TIGHT. FYI> Thanks Larry P.S. You would have more effort
to take it out then put it in. JMHO >Larry

                  Keith------

Roll pins are retained by "spring action". If you install the correct size pin, you will note that it slightly compresses as it's installed. It very slightly expands after installation and this retains the pin in the orifice.

The original pin was not a roll pin. It was sized to provide an interference fit in the bolt's pin orifice.

Either way, no peening or other retention method is necessary (or, advisable).
