    1958 Corvette Hardware Kit

Hi, first time for me to post here.

I recently started to tackle restoring my father's 1958 Corvette that he has had forever. He took everything apart probably like 30+ years ago and he didn't organize anything so it has been a process trying to find all the parts.

Trying to find where all the screws and fasteners/hardware went is basically impossible. I was hoping to find someone that sold a complete kit that contained all the correct fasteners/hardware like I purchased from AMK Products (https://www.amkproducts.com/) for a restoration I did on my 1968 Camaro.

I found kind of what I was looking for here https://www.bodyboltkit.com/1958-196...body-bolt-kit/ but they are 6 months out on backorder.

I purchased a number of books including the AIM. Having to go through the AIM page by page to document all the bolts/hardware would be a nightmare .

Anyone know someone that sells a good complete kit?

    Thanks,
    Jason

    Jason,

First of all, welcome to the TDB...

Secondly, WOW, what an interesting question.
I have never heard of such a kit, but you have interesting links there.

Are you intending to have the car judged when reassembled ?
Have you purchased the 1958 Technical Information Manual and Judging Guide (TIMJG) ? It will be a big help to you whether you're going the judged route or not...

It would be a shame not to use the originals if you're going the judged route, but I understand what a job in and of itself finding them and then figuring out where they go would be.

I'm sure other C1 guys will chime in, too.
    Good Luck !
    thx,
    Mark

      Jason,

Welcome to NCRS and the Technical Discussion Board.

You have a big task ahead of you identify all the nuts and bolts.

As Mark pointed out, the TIMJG would be helpful. Login to the NCRS Store https://www.ncrs.org/shop/index.php?...roducts_id=215

Would like to invite you to the Texas Chapter Houston Chapter meet on June 17th. Go to this link https://www.forums.ncrs.org/register...bscription.php page down to Texas Chapter 2023 Houston Meet.jpg and register to attend the Chapter meet.

        Jason,

Contact Rich Pasqualone at Original GM Hardware https://originalgmhardware.com he can probably supply just about anything you are looking for. Good luck with the project.

Another help is if you can find anyone with a 58-60 in your area.
There is nothing more valuable than being able to see a 3D model of a similar car, and know what fastener goes where.

I have also Googled for pictures to use as examples. That has been invaluable with the 1963 I've been working on, as there are many 1-year-only parts. In your case, a website with photos of a disassembly and restoration of a 58-60 or 62 can be very useful. Given the popularity of restomods, looking at pictures of chassis for sale is also a good tool.

Another source for hardware and hardware posters might be Richard Fortier Corvettes, Parts & Fasteners.

              Re: 1958 Corvette Hardware Kit

Patrick's suggestion of locating another '58-'60 owner, maybe a member of a local
Vette club, with full body-off restoration experience would be the ideal individual.
Shouldn't be a surprise to you, of how familiar one becomes with the hardware after having
wrenched-on, held in your hands and closely examined it numerous times.
An experienced '58-'62 restorer rummaging through your stash of fasteners, even briefly,
will be able to positively identify many of them, particularly if they were original to the car.
As Mark mentioned, it depends on the direction you're headed-in. Saving, refinishing and
re-using original, usable fasteners is the path I generally favor in my restoration projects.
Welcome to the Forum Jason, I hope to see many more of your posts in future.

Ask Tim Mickey if he knows a source.
