    Mecum-Glendale Lot # 139.1

Did anyone look into this white SWC Lot #139.1? There was very little said about the car on the block and very little shown. The bidding went as high as $210,000 and the seller passed on the sale.

    The car has:
Incorrect: Shifter, radiator cap, battery, seat belts, master cylinder and PB booster
It also had PS which 340 hp cars didn't come with. No undercarriage pictures either. No judging information, if at all.

I think this just shows where the market is on these coupes!! Crazy money

I wouldn't put much confidence in that bid number at a Mecum auction. They are well known for chandelier bids that run the car up near the reserve to see if any real money jumps into the auction. Smoke and mirrors here.

I guess that was a real deal sale, I watched it and some people were shown bidding. Of course I don't know who they are.

Michael, could you share some light on why the air cleaner decal is incorrect? Also the rubber air cleaner to air meter hose is a later 64/65 type.

              Sure, originals looked like this:

It's pretty close, but not identical. The line over AC is too thin, as is the font use for A163C. Nice try though.

I will add to the critique discussion. No pics of VIN tag, trim tag, engine pad nos., undercarriage, wrong heater hose clamp, exhaust extensions in too far, distributor vacuum advance hose disconnected, wrong floor mats, top shield wing nut, P/S belt, K/O cone paint missing...............I'm sure there is more that I missed. Wow, considering all these NTFP things, how did this car even get close to Top Flight?

Car was delivered to the Los Angeles Zone Office.
Built Feb 4th IIRC Power Window car with radio.

Lots with the story is embellished,
I was in Colorado Springs at a customer's place working on a couple of survivor 69 Camaros and he asked if I knew anything about 63 Z06's, I said I can identify the correct brake parts and if it were a tanker maybe some other items... AND off we went the first night I was in town into a crazy thunderstorm with funnel clouds out in the distance and down 2 miles of dirt and gravel roads...

We made the deal and then a couple weeks later pulled it out...

The guy we bought the car from was into straight axles and racing when he saw the car in 1967-1968 - he saw the car in a junk yard and knew what the brakes were, so he purchased the wreck for $300 based on the brakes, never knowing if it was a Z06 as he thought all Z06's were tankers and because the car did not have the body cut for a NO3 he wasn't sure about it's provenance. - reportedly first wrecked - light rear collision in 64 during a race, then "customized" with 64 Dodge tail lights and a year or two later had the front end knocked off, bent the frame horn and bent the pass A arms.

There was no engine or trans with the car when we bought it... NOT much there.

WOW, James, so are you saying the car in the link I provided and your car pictured above are one-and-the-same ?
Did you guys do the restoration as shown in the link pic - or had you sold it to someone else before that !
What a transformation - whomever did it !!!

                      thx,

YES the same car, It was 2016 when we pulled it out, which is before I was really heavy into corvettes. Even though I could have owned it, I thought the most it might be worth without the original engine was 150-200k I KNEW with LABOR I would be in it for somewhere close to that number so I passed without hesitation.
I had a couple of 69 Z28's and had recently found a 69 COPO 9561(previously unknown car) at our local cars and coffee, I was in Colorado working on some of the survivor Yenkos and L78's I had helped my customer acquire and thats how the story begins...

There is an article in the current (Sept 2023) VETTE VUES which tells of the green color and the square dodge tail lamps. we pulled it out in June -July 2016, we owned it no more than 2 weeks before we sold it to the gentleman in Utah who restored it.
