1967 Corvette with Power Windows working with the key off.

The power windows on a 67 should not work with the key off. This 67 has power windows that work with the key on. Does anyone have a fix for this. Thank You.

    Andre,
Welcome to the TDB. Check to see if the red wire coming off the power window breaker on the driver's side kick panel is plugged into the lower left lug of the fuse block labeled "power windows".

      Welcome Andre....

A bit confused with the second sentence. Do you mean they work with the key off?

Edit... I see you said "off" in the Thread Title now...

...so, it appears someone modified the wiring. Chances are they tied a feed wire directly to the Relay Coil feed wire. I.e. Red to Brown, Or even Red to Red at the Relay connector, bypassing the relay.

It's possible the relay went defective and they figured out how to bypass it.

On a 1967, the power windows(RPO A31) only function with the key to RUN or ACC.

The Red feed for the 2 PW console switches is from the fuse panel as Leif showed, but this feed goes to a relay(via a circuit breaker) which is activated separately from the ACC(brown wire) circuit. The Relay and CB is located in the driver side kick panel area.

The 1967 Wiring Diagrams and AIM has no useful accurate wiring information for A31. Here are some images which help describe the Power Window Circuit.

Firstly, here is a modified "1967 Chevy" wiring diagram showing the relay circuit for Corvette. Note the relay is activated by the Brown wire ACC circuit. This Brown wire is located in the Main Harness above the Instrument Cluster and normally plugs into a Radio Suppression Capacitor if Radio Equipped.

On PW cars, this Brown wire plugs into the PW Harness via a 3-way connector. The AIM shows this Brown wire ONLY in the U69 Radio section. I've made notes to correct inaccuracies in the AIM.

The AIM A31 page has errors and missing wiring features. Corrected below.

Here are additional images which may help.

A few more notes on the "Brown" wire. As mentioned, all 63-67 has this wire with the only reference documentation appearing in the AIM U69 pages.

Here is the 1966 AIM. Notice the note...
      "PROD RADIO
      CAPACITOR
      CONNECTOR
      (BROWN WIRE)"

PROD = PRODUCTION, meaning it exists on ALL cars in the Main Harness. This wire does not show up in ANY wiring diagrams. Note that if this wire is not used it is recommended to add some tape to the end to keep it from shorting to ground with Key ON or ACC.

Thank You for all your help and consideration. I was able to correct things by installing a new 67 power window harness and that corrected the issue. Again Many Thanks
