    Hood Release, 1966 Coupe w/air.

This is the hood release on the left side of the steering wheel.

    I NEED HELP,
I have tried a unit that I bought from California, (different than original, supposedly a replacement), I have mutilated a unit from Paragon. Something is just not right.

I have checked an assembly manual to no avail. I have checked resources to no avail.

Have there been discussions in the forum about this matter?

Any help will certainly be appreciated.

    I'm at wits end.

    Larry,
Not clear what you need help with. A clearer explanation as to what issues you're having. Installation of the hood release is pretty straight forward.

The bracket that holds the hood release lever is longer on an AC car than non-AC (to clear the AC vent).

I too thought this would be a simple replacement, however, it has turned into a nightmare. I ordered a wire/w handle and yes it is longer, I have shortened the wire and when I pull the handle it bends the wire and I am very afraid that I will be caught somewhere and pull the release and the wire breaks.

It does not appear to be a simple slide.?

I have had the same problems. These releases have never been great: all of them bind to some extent, but the repros certainly work even worse. Its a bit frustrating to find the handle loose in your hand, with the hood still latched.

I recommend that until you get the repro part to function properly you attach a second, (back-up) wire to the release lever then through the hole in the dash, with a loop under the dash, so you can pull it by hand, if the repro fails. I even leave the second wire there permanently on my non-judged cars.
