69 side pipe curiosity
I have a 69 L46 conv with sidepipes that I am completing the final touches of restoring. It is an original N14 car. Just finished putting on my new side pipe covers over my NOS side pipes. I took me some effort to get them mounted properly which is a whole nother story, but while working on them I notice a tab on the lower rear section of the pipes. My (what I think were original) pipes had them too but a PO used them to attach the deteriorating covers by bending them up and screwing the covers to it.
Anyone know what the tab(s) was used for? Pic below.
