Thanks Gary. Not sure how that speedo cable is routed but I assume it comes through the firewall perpendicular to it, running right to left (like mine does). Then it appears to be long enough to wrap around the back of the pedals, perhaps, because from the pictures it's oriented towards the left side of the car with plenty of distance from the pedals. Mine is not long enough to go around the back of the pedals with enough room that the pedals would not hit it when they are depressed. My car is also a Jan '69 build, 4 speed.

As I mentioned earlier my 1969 is an automatic transmission. I know the speedometer cable for M40 is different as it runs from the transmission to the engine compartment. It is 2-piece cable where the manual transmission cable is one continuous piece. It would not surprise me that the under-dash routing would be different as well.

I thought it worth going after the images because both our cars are January builds (mine is January 20) and that would reduce the chance of different routing of the wire harness changes during production. Gary went through some difficulty to get those photos because the car is in stored with a lot of other items that make the interior of the car difficult to get to.

Pictures were great and very helpful. Thinking more about the speedo cable some more, I went under the car and sure enough there is some slack in the cable under there that shouldn't be. I must have inadvertently pushed it back through the firewall some while trying to get it out of the way. Not sure it's enough to run it differently, e.g. behind the pedals such that there's no interference, but I'm going to take a look eventually. It just doesn't seem correct the way I have it now.

Wow, really close. My car is January 22.

It will be a few months before I have the dash out of the 69, and can photograph the speedo cable routing. Too much stuff in the way underneath right now to get a picture....

Thanks Gary. You've been a lot help already.

As an update, took her out for a short test drive even though it's not all back together and speedo is not registering but I can hear some clicking so suspect it's not in far enough and simply routed incorrectly and unable to handle the fairly sharp final curve to the connector. Once I'm up to laying on my back again and fiddling under the dash will take up that slack under the car and try a route similar to what the picture's of Terry's 69 show.
