    69 427 Manual Exhaust System

    Guys,

I am in need of the above for a future flight judged car. I prefer to use Gardner and Eddie is 10 weeks out. As an alternate I can get the system that Corvette Central is offering now. My question is this, has anyone had any issues with a Corvette Central system on a flight judged car? I would buy the welded aluminum system. I know I will lose points for not going raw steel but I am willing to take that hit. Please let me know your thoughts.

    Thanks

    Lawrence

The points difference between a Gardner system and a Corvette Central system is minimal, if any. You would take the usual deductions for either one being aluminized, and only a small deduction if warranted for configuration.

You can lose as much for the incorrect clamps and tips as you can for the rest, so pay attention to those details.

      Lawrence,

Here's my thread on receiving and installing CC's welded exhaust:

As Patrick advises, no replacement system is exactly like the original (not double walled, no wrinkle bends are two big differences) but I am pleased with fit and overall quality. When I shopped a few years ago, only CC offered welded mufflers. That may be different now but I don't know.

It sounds like originality is a major consideration for you. But you can upgrade the stock 1969 2" system to 2 1/2" as used in 1970-74 big blocks.

However, if the judges detect this it's an additional deduction.

I said this, but the transmission hanger bracket will need to be changed from 2" to 2 1/2"... and you'll need to research if the exhaust manifold donut connection will fit... maybe not.

                Patrick------

Yes, the left side BB manifold for 1970-74 was different than the 1965-69. So, when retrofitting a 2-1/2" system to a 1969 BB, one needs to use the 1968 system.

                All 1968 Corvettes were 2-1/2" systems----base engine to L-88.
