C4 bumper cover repaint advice please

Hi all. I didn't see anything in the search so here goes... I am repainting the front bumper cover on my 93 due to several ugly paint chips. I show the car and hope to have it NCRS judged this year. It has already been painted in the past and the black paint around the fog lights doesn't look correct to me.<br />

What is the correct black for this area? Gloss?, satin? What is the proper order to paint this area? Spray the black first then mask and spray the body color? Or body color first, then the black?<br />

Anyone with pictures of an original, non repainted bumper cover, please post.<br />

I would call it a gloss black but not a high gloss black. I'm virtually certain that it was applied first, somehow masked off, and the bumper cover painted.

Also, keep in mind that the bumper covers, front and rear, were originally painted before installation on the body.

I actually worked at the plant when your bumper was painted. It was painted on a separate line from the rest of the body panels. It should be as glossy as the rest of the body panels. The front facias could have been painted as many as 3 times. Each time they came out of the oven, they were inspected and either passed as good or rejected with a chalk mark placed on the back side. If you can see the mark, it may read 2 or 3 but after that the part was scrapped because of too much weight. The black base coat / clear coat paint can be purchased at any good paint store (House of Color does a good job). Actual main paint supplier was Dupont.
