    Stamp Pad Surface Rust

I am looking for the best way to remove surface rust from my original stamp pad without damaging the surface.
    What has worked for you??

Navel jelly or a cloth or paper towel soaked with EvapoRust rust remover. It may take a while, but keep at it. Do not rub the stamp pad surface with any type of brush other than a toothe brush to help clean the surface.

some kroil and light rubbing with fine steel wool should do it.

NO!!!!! NEVER use any type of abrasive, no matter how fine, on the pad. Post #2 has much better recommendations.

I used the Naval Jelly on my cylinder case pad with fabulous results. Also works great on exhaust pipes.

Wet a small piece of terry cloth with EvapoRust - put it on the stamp pad. Tape it down with duct tape or some other tape that will reduce the probability of air coming in contact with the terry cloth. Let it sit overnight, rust should be dissolved by the next day.

Evaporust should indeed do the job. Should probably wipe with wet towel after and apply something to keep flash or other rust from returning. CLP or Kroil or a variety of others would do the job.

As for alternative of Kroil and LIGHT wipe with 0000 steel wool...I have used such on MUCH more delicate finishes than engine block stamp pads which were originally machined with much more abrasive than 0000 steel wool. I would not hesitate myself from using that approach. Am confident naked eye or even basic magnification would detect nothing adverse. TIM&JG even cautions to be wary of excessively smooth stamp pads. If 0000 steel worries one...Kroil and paper towel should tackle light surface rust just fine while adding protection at same time.

I have soaked a blue paper towel with Evap O Rust, and just kept the towel soaked and it works great. May take an hour depending on the rust.

Rich I used WD 40 and an old tooth brush. I sprayed and brushed 4 or 5 times Then I washed off the WD with soapy water. After it dried I sprayed the pad with high temperature clear paint still looks great a few years later
