American Classic Radials by Coker: Yes or No

What is the current feeling regarding the blackwall version of the American Classic Radial 670R15 from Coker Tire for a C1? From what I have been able to gather, it's a mixed bag. Some say the DB version is a better tire, while others just don't like any Coker Tire for a variety of reasons. Some say the DB tire doesn't fit the spare tire well flush, because it's dimensionally different: about .4" wider and 1.24" shorter. I do like the "pie crust" look of the DB sidewall. The DB Auburn Deluxe Radial 670R15 is $249 ea., compared to the Coker version at $325 ea. My own experience with the 695/15 Coker's I purchased for a 1960 Corvette about 20 years ago, is that a couple of tires were very difficult to mount, and one in particular was very difficult to balance, even using new 5" steel wheels. I still have that unpleasant memory and would hope the QC folks are doing a better job of making these things today. Anyone with first-hand experience?
    Thanks.

I had a set of Coker radials years ago and would never buy them again. I currently have 2 sets of Diamondbacks and love them!

For those prices you could buy a set of V-rated 205/70R-15 Avon CR6ZZ, and turn your car into a g-machine.

Maybe if you wore a Bo Tie it would not slap you riding in the Convertible with the top down!

Depends on what you want the tire for. If you just want pereiod correct look for show than Cookers are fine, if actually are going to drive the car than buy a better tire

Agreed Duke, a much better tire for most any application.

Had Coker's on my 67 coupe and replaced them with Diamondback's and it is a much better riding vehicle.

What are you wanting to do with the tires...drive on them or use for display purposes only? Avon's are superior performance tires, Diamondback makes a very nice, everyday driving tire, Coker's are nice for a static display. Kelsey tire is another company to consider.

If your driving the car, I bought a set of Cooper Tires. Not very expensive and they give a good ride. No issues with balancing as I had with the Coker's before and they were not as advertised.

Running the Coker Radial (bias ply look) for about a year on my C1. Balanced fine, run fine, and look great.
