69 Speedo cable routing under dash

    Hi everyone,

Can someone please explain the routing of the speedo cable, behind the dash pad, with regard to the pedals, column supports, and dash bracing (69 convertible)? Appears it needs to go in front of the pedals and perhaps around the left side of the column support. Don't think there's room to run it inside the column support but that's where it appears to "want" to go. I know it was connected when I removed the column and I don't recall having to to maneuver the column around it so I think it runs above the column but again, not sure.

    Thanks,

    Jack

IIRC the distance from the grommet on the firewall to the speedo is fairly short. Although I don't have a convertible, when I ran my speedo cable, there wasn't much wiggle room with regards to the routing of the cable. It's seemed pretty intuitive if you assume the routing should go in the most reasonably direct route possible. I can take a pic of what my routing looks like but I might not get to my car for a little while. I've also looked at the AIM and I don't see much in the way of detail on how the speedo cable is run. What I would say is that you should eyeball all the structures under there and just run it in the most practical way possible.

      Hi Mike,

Yeah, I agree. I remembered I have an extra, empty, dash pad so I mounted it and it appears it can only go over the column, in front of the pedals, and around the right side of the cast iron column mount.

I appreciate the response and the offer of a pic but I should be good to go now.

      Thanks,

      Jack
