    1965 standard suspension rear spring

    Hello,

My question is about the shortest spring leaf that bolts up against the bottom of the rear axle housing. Is this short spring leaf cut at a forty five degree angle on all four corners or is it cut straight across with no angled cuts? Also, how much of the plastic spring liner should go past the outer edges of the spring leaves when the spring is not compressed and under load? Thank you for any replies.

This thread shows what original leaves look like.

Look at posting #2 for the top leaf. Leaves 2-9 should all have the classic, tapered rolled ends.

I have never seen an original top leaf with 45 degree corner cuts.

Here are pictures of my 1965 standard rear suspension spring as it came off the car. As you can see, the top spring is not cut at 45 degree angles. The plastic spring liners should protrude past the end of the spring above it by approximately 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch when the car is on the ground.

        Good Morning,

Thank you for the replies to my inquiry and the photos provided. I believe that my spring is some type of replacement (possibly GM?) since it doesn't match the characteristics of the springs in the photos. Is Eaton Spring the best manufacturer of accurate reproduction standard suspension springs for the 1965 model? Thank you again to the members who responded for their valuable input. Have a pleasant day.

I would contact Eaton Spring to get a price for a new rear spring assembly. I'm not sure if the 8 leaves with have the correct curved ends. I sent you an email regarding a replacement original rear spring assembly.

The Eaton spring definitively does not have the correct taper rolled ends on leaves 2-9. But the Eaton spring is arguably the best reproduction 9-leaf spring there is.
