    Question on Parking brake part

Anyone familiar with this part in the link below? Can't seem to corroborate use/existence of this part anywhere but Doc. Am rebuilding my park brake assembly. Can't seem to see one in there currently. If this is a correct part any info on how/where it mounts?
    Thanks
    Keith

I deleted my comment because I realized I was wrong about where on the car this guide is supposedly used. The DocRebuild part is somehow used in the brake pull handle cable (not the rear cable that I initially thought) but I can't find it or the '67-'81 part (3897439) above it. I've looked in both '67 and '72 assembly manuals but don't see anything listed as a guide or looking like a guide other than the previously mentioned horseshoe clips.

I think I found it... but I've been mistaken before...

The '78 assembly manual shows a detail of the handle assembly - view B. It appears a block is illustrated like what DocRebuild shows. It wouldn't have been called out separately if installed as an assembly with the handle. Perhaps the parts illustration book shows it.

The original 1967-81 guide, GM #3897439, was discontinued in July, 1987 and replaced for SERVICE by the 1982 guide, GM #14033720. The latter was discontinued without supersession in January, 1993. That's 30 years ago!. I'm surprised the Doc still has any left.

As I recall, possibly falsely, this guide is within the parking brake handle assembly. The 14033720 will work just as well as the 3897439 and no one will ever know the difference.

So would 33720 be correct for 1969 as a service replacement?

The guide can be seen in "View B" of the AIM page you included. It is part of the handle assembly and one of the few parts once available separately from GM.

                      Hi,
That page that was posted that you reference was from 77 AIM and originally posted by Owen There is no View B in my 69 AIM but I did just unbolt the handle in my 69 and indeed that little plastic retainer is in there. Not sure it is a wear item but I got one from DOC...well...just cuz it is NOS which won't be around forver and not too pricey. And who knows..once I pull it out of there may want to replace it based on what I see.
                      Thanks
                      Keith

The parking brake lever assembly was basically the same from 1967 through 1982 and all are functionally interchangeable. The only differences involved minor trim differences on the lever handle.
