    '71 &LT1 Oil Dipstick #3842780

I have a '71 &LT1 oil dipstick that needs to have the seal replaced (see photos).
Does anyone know if the seal can be removed and replaced with a good one from another oil dipstick?

Yes, it can be removed. Soak the end in hot water. It softens the rubber and glue and allows it to be pulled out. Small needle nose pliers.
Do the same thing to the "donor" dipstick.

        I'd just use weather-strip adhesive. Super-glue?

          Gary,
How long did it take you soften the adhesive and remove the seal on your dipstick?
I soaked mine, in very hot water, for about a half hour without any success in loosening the adhesive and removing the seal "safely".
          Please let me know . . . .
          Thanks.

It's been a long time. If hot water don't work, try a heat gun long the side. Take an icepick and run it along side between the rubber and metal. Then pull it out with a pair of needle nose pliers.

              Gary,
I tried the heat gun, prior to putting it in hot water . . . neither worked.
Do you know the shape of the seal? Is it cylindrical, with the adhesive only on the sides?
Or by chance is it a cup shaped seal, with the adhesive on the sides and the bottom also?
              Thanks again for your help.

This morning, I took a service replacement dipstick, and pulled the rubber out of it.
I sanded the edge of the tube, for you to see how it goes in, snaps into place. This one was NOT glued in place.
