    Bumpers Underneath Decklid on 68

    I have a Nov. 67 built 68 convertible. I noticed in a parts catalog that there were rubber bumpers screwed into brackets underneath the decklids on 68 and later C3 Corvettes. Apparently the purpose was to press against the convertible top when in the folded position to prevent rattling. My decklid has no provision (no screw holes) for the bumpers or bumper brackets underneath the decklid. I presume these were added later on the production cycle.

    Does anyone know when these bumpers were added to vehicles in 68? Thanks.

      In the AIM, UPC, Sht F7 shows the bumper assembly. Items 37, 38, and 39 were added 2-8-68 per change number 12. The nut to secure the rubber bumper was added 4-4-68, change number 15.

      I've not looked closely at convertibles, and build dates to see when they actually started. My experience is that the AIM was updated in arrears, usually after the fact. It took time to clean up the paperwork.

      I've updated the 68-69 TIM&JG to show this. If you could do me a favor please, take a picture of the bottom of your decklid, sans the bumpers, and I'll add that picture to the TIM&JG also. Please.

              I was over a friends house today, looked at his May 10, 1968 built car. It does not have the bumpers under the decklid. So, it had to be after that.

                  Hi Gary, sorry for the delay. Here's a shot of the underside of the decklid on my 68. Looks the same as your friend's decklid.
