67 seat back lock spring keeps coming out

I'm in the process of recovering the seats in my 67. I took them apart; bead blasted and painted the frames. I'm trying to get the seat back locks back together.

I'm having a problem with the small spring that fits around the crank assembly (See attached pictures). I can install the spring with the end in the hole of the frame as picture in the AIM (UPC 1 sheet J6). If I move the lock fork to the position for when the seat back then trip the latch as if I'm folding the seat back forward the spring pops out of the seat frame. I'm tried rearranging the spring, bending the tip to try and get it to stay and place and everything I can think of and nothing is working.

Does anyone have a secret to keep the spring in place?

Don, You have to make a aggressive hook at the end that goes in the frame. See this post for some details.

Another thought... Maybe after the hook end is in the hole, install a pop-rivet?

It really is a badly designed latch system. Too much play.

      Thanks Rich,

I actually did bend the end but not a full hook earlier, but it didn't work. Your suggestion would work; however, before I read your post I went to my old friend J-B Weld and it seems to be working!
