1982 runs good to 3000 rpm and then wants to die.

Have a 82 collector car that has hardly been driven in the last 10 years. Recently replaced the fuel pump, ignition wires, spark plugs.
The car drives fairly well until you floor the gas pedal and as it starts to wind up at about 3000 rpm it wants to die, take your foot off the gas and it continues to run fine. The cross fire system is still intact. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Did these exact symptoms exist before you did the work?

No car barely ran because of bad fuel pump.

When the fuel pump was replaced, did it include replacing the mesh pickup filter and any rubber fuel line in the tank? It may help cleaning out the metal fuel line with air pressure and replacing the rubber fuel lines front and rear. Anything restricting fuel flow up to and including the injectors and air flow into the throttle bodies. How many miles on the car?

          Check T.P.S voltage .

Nice weather got the 82 out again. Starts immediately, idles a little rough about 550 rpm. Smooths out under normal acceleration and wants to hesitate/die when when stomp on it about 3000 rpm. Help.

                Ted

Does car run ok when engine is cold?

e.g. Only problem when engine warms up?

If ok when cold (open loop), and runs poorly when warm (closed loop), then perhaps issue with oxygen (air/fuel) sensor.

                Dave

Add: Open/Closed Loop refer to Fuel Injection mode. Open loop - computer using preprogramed map for fuel injection air/fuel mix.
Closed loop - computer using feedback from O2 sensor to set air/fuel mixture.

I have an 82 Collector Edition. Bought it with 8,800 original miles. Sat for many years. The fuel pump and Fuel Strainer were changed. I also changed the 02 sensor as well as the inline fuel filter. Plugs, wires, cap and rotor should also be changed. Mine runs like new now. I would change all those out. Have you checked for stored codes?

Runs about the same warm or cold.
The smog pump belt is disconnected and the smog tubes from the exhaust manifolds are welded shut. I am sure this has some impact but the car ran good before it got several years of storage. I don't plan on undoing the smog items that have been bypassed.
