1970 Steering Wheel Sticky

I recently purchased a 70 Corvette that was restored. Thye steering wheel is as new but really sticky. I'm sure it is a reproduction but is there anyway to salvage the wheel without replacing it? I didn't want to try anything until I received some input! Thanks

My 1973 Original Wheel did the same thing.

There is something about the plastic over the years that the plastics become "mushy"

I replaced my steering wheel with a reproduction.

...had the same problem on my '76 Cosworth Vega. Wiping it down with mineral spirits should remove the sticky surface layer, but it will probably come back. Test a small area before doing the whole wheel.

I had the same problem with the original wheel on my 1970. I wiped the rim with dish soap every week or so, and after a few months the rim was fine. My theory is resin was oozing from the plastic, which stopped after awhile.

Use Lemon Ammonia and plenty of clean rags. This worked perfectly for me.
