Hello. I had my car judged last September, and the judges found I had a slow leak from my fuel sending unit. I replaced it with a "quality" replacement, but the gauge is wonky and inaccurate, a common complaint I see from many C2 owners that have replaced theirs. I obviously kept the original unit and need to have it rebuilt. Does anyone know who can rebuild and test it? I contacted John Wolf who had a good reputation, but he is no longer repairing them since he is too busy and cannot find anyone to help him. If anyone has a lead on a great repair person, it would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Re: Fuel Sending Unit Repair for C2 Needed
James,
If possible, could you post before and after photos once you get your sender back? There are a number of people, including myself, with non-functional original senders that need restoration.

Re: Fuel Sending Unit Repair for C2 Needed
I also tried John Wolf and he told me about Tri Star Radiator LLC in North Pitcher NY. He said he was not recommending them but heard of them. I asked around on the CF and as I remember some people commenting it was long time to repair and expensive, but other than that nothing negative so I sent my 66 leaking but accurate fuel sender to them on Jan 3rd of this year. (The reproduction I got from the corvette parts place kept blowing fuses and was wildly inaccurate although the ohms checked ok.) Tri Star Radiator told me it would be at around 3 months but your thread gave me a reminder to drop them a friendly email and inquire about the status. I will send a follow up post when I get it back and get it installed, but may be a while as thinking about changing the gas tank out also. Good luck. Mark- Top

Re: Fuel Sending Unit Repair for C2 Needed
Gary,
I will post pictures, but I asked to not have the sending unit re-plated. The plating was in good condition so I instructed them to just make it work which they called back after receiving it and said they could do. I would call for an estimate. The estimate price they gave me was lower than the price to repair it. I'll assume the price included the packaging and shipping back to me. It was expensive, but what's the alternative.

Re: Fuel Sending Unit Repair for C2 Needed
Hi Jaime,
I sent it to Bob's AND MAN, HE'S EXPENSIVE!!! And they were telling me two months to return. My experience is if someone says "two months" it usually means double it. Hopefully that is not the case. Let me know how yours turned out.
Cheers

Re: Fuel Sending Unit Repair for C2 Needed
I sent mine in durng the third week of February. They quote me a month. I called them on the 29th of March to get an update and was told that they were waiting for it to return from being plated and when it returns they would assemble it and test it.
The problem I have with them so far is that in a letter that was sent in the box with the sending unit, I specifically said I DID NOT want it re-plated since it was in excellent shape. I also stated this when they called after they received it to discuss the repair where again I specifically stated it does not need any cosmetic work or re-plating.
I will be calling again next week for an update.

When you get your sending unit back, the info in the attached "how - to" document might be of some value to you. I didn't write it - not sure who did but there is some good info in it.Attached FilesEd- Top

Re: Fuel Sending Unit Repair for C2 Needed
Update on my fuel sending unit repair. On Friday, June 23rd I received my sending unit back from being repaired and restored by Bob's Speedometers in Howell, Michigan. As I stated in an early reply to this post, I sent it to them during the third week of February of this year. They did an excellent job and after being bench tested before installation and tested again once installed in a dry tank it works as required 0.2 ohms at empty and 89.8 ohms at full with good linier readings when moving the float arm from empty to full. I had asked them in my letter which was sent with the sending unit that I did not want the sening unit plated, but they either didn't read my letter or that is just standard practice when they restore them. I have to say it looks great, and I'm glad now after seeing the end result that it was worth it. So the final price... are you all sitting down? $575.00 plus return shipping for a total of $604. Expensive yes, but worth it so far to have the original AC sending unit back in the tank. My only hurdle now is that when fuel is put in the tank that it doesn't leak. I installed it per the instructions in the '65 AIM using an NOS GM rubber O-ring. I took the advice from fellow members and applied so fuel proof sealer on the inside wire connectors for good measure. I plan to put a gallon or two of gas in te tank next week and let it set for a day or two and monitor it for leaks. I've attached a few pictures of the restored sending unit. Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks,
