    C2 Seat Bottom Springs

I'm in the process of recovering the seats in my 67. I am trying to decide if I want to replace the zig-zag springs or leave the originals. I'm only considering replacing the bottom springs. The backs are in very good shape. I am assuming that since most of the weight of the driver or passenger is on the bottom, these springs are prone to be more sprung. Also, while my backs are still nice and clean, the bottoms have quite a bit more rust, including on the springs.

What I am finding is that the original springs are probably 11 gauge (0.1205" diameter), most if not all the corvette suppliers sell springs that are 9 gauge (0.1483" diameter) so they are thicker.

I'm hoping someone else has been through this and was happy with the replacement thicker springs.

    Thanks,

    Don

I wouldn't replace them unless they are completely rusted out. Most people restore the bottom seat frames and not replace them. They can be sent out for restoration or you can do it yourself if you have the tools and skills.

      James,

I reused the bottom springs on my 67, just disassembled the frame, wire brushed and repainted the frame and springs.

Don i recovered my seats last winter I did the same as Jerry. CLeaned up and painted all. Since the passenger seat usually sees less use you could switch the springs or the bottoms around.

I am in the midst of doing mine on a 69. I got a tub from Loews for mixing cement and gave them Evaporust bath. Frames fir in tub well and worked amazing. Still gotta paint and reassemble but planning to keep original springs.
