Indianapolis 500 Corvettes

I am researching the various indy 500 cars for an upcoming book. I have been able to collect the vehicle Assignment sheets for most years 1970 to date, and almost all the build info/rpo codes 1990 to date. Two questions. For 1978 there were two engine options as shown through the VINs. I have managed to verify about two thirds of the cars by running the various VIN combinations through various databases. Is there a registry of 1978 cars? I only need the VIN as I do not collect owners names, locations, etc. I would be happy to share what I have.

For 1986 there were about 60 Corvettes used as track cars. I have the VINs of these cars but not the colors. I ran VINs but could only locate 17 of the cars. Is there a place I could find the color combinations of these cars with just the VIN?

Are you member of the National Corvette Museum? They have all the build records for 1982 and up Corvettes.
