    PF-25 Oil Filter discontinued ?

    Howdy everyone,

A couple years ago, I ordered a number of AC Delco Classic Look PF-25 Oil Filters for my SBC from Rock Auto. After 3 oil changes, I sought out additional filters for my upcoming oil changes. Not only could I not find the white canister filters with the blue lettering, but even the typical blue PF-25 filters were non-existent everywhere I looked.

Yesterday, I stopped into my local Chevrolet dealer to obtain there, as surely, they must have the blue PF-25's in stock. Imagine my surprise when the Parts Manager looked up on the computer after he checked the shelf and told me that it was discontinued!! He even looked up GM p/n 19187300. Discontinued. Even he expressed surprise at the situation. There was no p/n supersedure noted.

Curious what members are using as a substitute for the popular PF-25 ?

While I'm not Top Flight, I'm thinking K&N HP-2002 for a replacement, as it has a white canister body and about the same physical size as the PF-25, albeit a little expensive ...

Wix 51069 is an exceptionally good, reasonably priced filter for your application. NAPA filter is a reboxed/rebranded Wix filter, as well.

I use PF35L which is physically longer (hence more filter surface area) than PF25 and has the 12 micron synthetic (vs. paper) filter media. About $11 from RockAuto.
        See https://www.forums.ncrs.org/showthre...ighlight=pf35l

If you want an additional quart of capacity, try the PF932. It's about twice the length of PF25 or 50% longer than PF35. Installed, its bottom is about flush with the bottom of the oil pan and fits small blocks and big blocks with stock exhaust (may interfere with headers or a "custom" exhaust pipe routing). But like the PF25 or regular PF35, it only has the standard paper filter media. About $6 from RockAuto.

If you prefer the original short paper filter, PF454 is about the same size as PF25.

The original PF-25 oil filter, GM #6438261, was discontinued more than 20 years ago and replaced by the PF-454, GM #25324052. The latter remains available from GM. However, it is considerably shorter than the PF-25.

The longer PF-35, GM #6438384, which was NEVER originally installed on a Corvette, was also discontinued more than 20 years ago and replaced by the PF-1218, GM #25160561. I used both of these filters on my 1969 small block for many years.

Later GM released the PF-25 "classic" (white-painted) and the PF-35L, GM #25013454 (synthetic media).

They also released the UPF-1218. The latter is a synthetic media filter which was ultimately replaced by the PF-35L. I like the UPF-1218. Years ago I purchased a lifetime supply of that filter [none for sale]. Some photos of it are below. Note the red teflon coated gasket. This makes installation and removal easier.

Thanks for the great information, everyone!! This helps tremendously! I did find and ordered a AC Delco Classic look PF-25 on eBay and shall save it to install for the 2024 National on my Concurs Stock. Meanwhile, the PF-454, Wix 51069, and the PF-35L will fit the bill.

Thanks again everyone! Y'all are the best!

I Don't know if I am allowed to say this. So Delete Don, etc if necessary. I am poor with PF 25's.

Beware of buying new parts from obscure sellers on eBay... especially filters. Lots of counterfeits. Best to source through an authorized retailer (Autozone, Walmart, RockAuto...)
