Engine Services in Cincinnati, Ohio - Oil Leak Needs to Be repaired

    Hello,
I was hoping for suggestions on where I can get an oil leak from my rear main seal repaired in the Cincinnati, Ohio area. I have a 2003 C5 automatic with 87K miles. I noticed a few small drips after I took the car out yesterday for a warm-up drive. I appreciate any help in advance. My email is srosenzweig@me.com. Thanks!

I have no knowledge of repair facilities in your area but I'm sure Chevrolet dealerships could handle it. However, I can tell you that for your application it's quite a job to replace a rear main seal. Your application uses a 1 piece rear seal. That means that the transmission has to be removed to replace the seal.

1 piece seals are preferable to 2 piece seals of old EXCEPT when they need to be replaced.

Thank you! I will call a couple of my local Chevy dealers.

I ended up selling my 2002 with 88K miles as my rear main seal was leaking. Estimate from a repair shop was $3400. I also replaced oil sending unit, oil pressure switch and oil stop leak additives it was no help. Good luck.

Ouch! I'd want to be really, really sure the rear main was indeed the problem before invested that much cash. Sometimes oil leaks can be tricky to determine real origins. Would be nice if it was just a sensor or something above the rear of the oil pan.

Put engine oil dye in the oil and then have someone check it with a black light. I think the rear main seal is a common problem.

Good luck hope it's not the rear main seal.
