When I removed the headlight motors on my 64 to have them reconditioned there was no bracket or grommet on either side. Held in place only by the clips. looking underneath the top of the nose with a mirror I saw the grommet screw was broken off in the header. I ordered a mount kit . When I enlarged the screw the threads looked rounded not standard. Are these special screws? Is a tap available?

Re: headlight motor mount
Jeffrey, there are nut plates in the header, broken off bolts are always fun but upside down ones take special care. You might find it easier in the long run to remove the grille which on a 63-4 I believe you can do and get to the broken bolt from that way. Take the other bolt out, it should be a 10-24 and they are special bolts which your new mount kit will have. Scott- Top

Re: headlight motor mount
Thanks Scott, the screw was broke flush. I drilled it out but got the threads a little. I have a 10-24 tap. Hope it cleans up. The other side did not have a screw.- Top

Re: headlight motor mount
Just a heads up / that bolt and star washer needs to be the correct length as if it is too long it will interfere with the motors internals . Jeff- Top

Re: headlight motor mount
I have 5 63 and 3 63 motors with black plastic where the harness plugs in. Did a rebuild result in the black on mine?
Now, I will check the 63-64 TIM&JG...
Also found one of the 10-24 bolts broken.https://MichiganNCRS.org

Re: headlight motor mount
Tom,
All the original Headlight Motors I have ever seen have a BLACK plastic connector. Don't mean there were not white ones in 63 but most judges will dock you for white ones on a 63. 99.999% Black anyway!

Re: headlight motor mount
Danny,
I believe the main headlight harness just about out of view at the very top of your photo, and the wires to the headlight motors themselves, both should be positioned above the headlight motor brackets.

Re: headlight motor mount
Hi Bob, Yes, They did change to White for 64-67. Could you have white early in 63? As always, anything is possible. I have a few early 63 motors here with white also. Not sure if the motors were ever swapped when they were rebuilt or not so I can't confirm any details from them.
I'm sure we could find a few more early motors with white connector housings!

Re: headlight motor mount
Hi Joe, they could have been rebuilt but I've owned that car since the mid 70s.
Back then, headlight motors usually were fixed by a Chevy dealer since not many owners (around here) were buying publications that ran ads.
I'd really like to know when black connectors started.
