Width of rubber channel for glass in '56 - '62 windshield weatherstrip

I'm installing a new Paragon reproduction windshield weatherstrip in a '56 Corvette.

The rubber channel for the glass for the upper weatherstrip portion is narrow and fits tightly on the glass. However, at the bottom corner on each side the rubber channel for the glass widens by a factor of two and the glass fits in it very loosely across the windshield front (see photo below). Is this correct and made the same way on other brands of weatherstripping?

Jerry, Yes that's how they're made. It needs to be wider where the rubber fits into the channel of the windshield post. Once installed in the post it'll tighten up somewhat.

Here's one and a zoomed in section of it showing what you're seeing. It's from CRC which is where I'd think Paragon gets there's from too.

Thanks so much for answering my question, Rich. That's exactly what I wanted to know.

What is the brand of the weatherstrip in your photo? I like its transition area better than the Paragon design.

Jerry, It's from CRC.... Corvette Rubber Co.

Located in Northern Michigan, we manufacture the highest quality American-made restoration weatherstripping for Corvettes. When you count on quality weatherstripping for America’s favorite sports car, you can count on Corvette Rubber Company.

Many vendors sell theirs, Paragon maybe as well.

          Thanks again, Rich.

They might have sold the CRC windshield weatherstrip at one time, but the current Paragon design is obviously made by someone else. I plan to call CRC next Monday, order a new weatherstrip, and start over on this windshield installation when it arrives.

I have met the enemy, and it is me. I'm just too impatient these days to screw with a reproduction part once I dislike it.

Does anyone want a free '56 - '62 windshield weatherstrip?

          Jerry
