    OnStar 2G disconnect notice

Recently I have been made aware that early OnStar systems are being disconnected due to phone systems not supporting 2G systems. This affects 2014 and earlier systems.

We are working on the upcoming 2005 - 2007 TIMJG. If you have an OnStar equipped C6, specifically 2005 - 2010 please let me know what happens when you press the call button.
I have several reports that the line is answered but goes no further.

I want to make the Judging guide accurately reflect what to expect during Flight operations checks and PV judging.

Pete, I discontinued OnStar on my 2006 around 2012. Think about this from a judging perspective, would an owner need to have an active OnStar account as not to loose Operations Check points?

      Good question Harry,

Even if the subscription expired, we have verified the system would allow a call to the call center, but that was all.
Conveniently you could renew and reactivate your subscription during that call

For judging purpose, that was all we were looking for, to witness a dial and get a ring tone.
Some owners removed fuses, hardware or disabled the system due to other concerns. If it was DEAD, that would result in a deduction.
I need to see what others are experiencing currently.

Please let me know what your system does when you have a moment.

Harry and Pete, my ROP for the Sires radio system works but I did not renew the subscription, 50&60 music for 190 a year not smart. Will there be a deduction for non-op but I can still here the sales pitch?

Ed, I'm asking about Onstar not XM.
Check that out and report back.
          Thanks

I'll check tomorrow, cars covered on the lift in the cold garage.

Pete, I got in the car on top of the lift. Went to accessory mode then hit the blue button. OnStar answered and asked if I would like to listen to the menu. I stopped there.

              Cheers

Pete, other than Z06 and OnStar the original owner paid for everything the factory would allow. Harry did you have a catcher or a batch of pillows below when you climbed up, or were you wearing a safety belt, you're my hero. Have you ever thought about applying for a stunt job in Hollywood, I have contacts.

                    Re: OnStar 2G disconnect notice

For those that currently use the OnStar service, please know that I just concluded a chat with OnStar. Quite disappointing.

I was advised that due to cellular systems changing beyond 2G, a new plan, "OnStar Guardian" will be offered. This program/service will connect subscriber and OnStar via the subscriber's cell phone instead of the car as is the case today. For this, GM/OnStar wants $15/month. There's an expectation that users will pay $15 per month to get the minimal coverage.

It seems this is the way the industry is going. Another money grab, just like the monthly subscriptions for things like heated seats I'm reading about.......

I began to get warnings about the system in my Yukon early last summer advising me that it would end no later than December 31. In fact, mine was disconnected in early December. The phone app is a huge savings from the $40+ I was paying. I have not had to use it but it seems that all my coverage is still there. There are links at the bottom of my screen for SOS, roadside assistance, and Call Onstar.
BTW I did not have all the extra add-ons with my original plan.

I suspect time will tell on what the function will actually be after it truly sunsets. I'll be following up as I hear things.

Just treat it like anything else that isn't there, slash/slash - and move on?
