    C2 radiator

I am restoring a 66 base 300hp/327 coupe. My understanding is that is came from the factory with a Harrison aluminum radiator. Is this correct?

Yes, the radiator was GM #3155316 and was used for all 1963-67 Corvette small blocks and many 1968-72 Corvette small blocks. It was not used for any other Chevrolet or GM application; it was Corvette-exclusive. DeWitts manufactures an excellent reproduction.

Joe, would you know why the 70 - 72 LT-1 had copper while most 63 - 72 had aluminum radiators?

To me, the copper radiator was probably heavier and perhaps more expensive, so why specifically use it for just a relatively few vehicles in production? Even the Special Performance 350 LT-1 (racing package) 70 - 72 ZL-1 had aluminum radiators ...

When I bought my 66 about 20 years ago it had a brass radiator. I replaced it with the DeWitts repro. Not sure when I did it but I realized it should have been the first thing I did. You will not be sorry.

                    Eric,

Welcome! When I bought my '65 327 years ago her original aluminum radiator was just too corroded to salvage. Leaking like a sieve. I'm very critical of repro parts and usually avoid them like the plague. Not so with Dewitts radiators. I've bought replacement radiators from them for both of my midyears. Fantastic product line!

Your original '66 radiator came with a date code stamped on it's top casing. You'll have to decide what code to choose before you call them. My car was an early April build. It's original radiator came with a March '65 date code stamp.

                    Mike

Super! My car is a Feb 1966 build date. I will give DeWitt the VIN etc for the correct tags.

If you are planning on having your car judged, research the appearance of the oval clamping marks on the radiator top plate. It is not difficult to replicate. Good luck and welcome.

Dewitt’s changed their tooling to incorporate that design. Or at least the one my dad bought three years ago is like that
