    1963 T-10 Shifter (Hurst)

Maybe this is the wrong place to ask, since a Hurst shifter is obviously an aftermarket part, but does anyone know if the "installation kit" is different for a '63 T-10 from say a '62?

The new "kits" include a stamped steel plate for the shifter mounting, along with, of course, linkage rods. I see listings for '63 with a Muncie, but not a T-10.

I also assume that the original ("back in the day") mounting plate for the shifter was a cast aluminum piece.

The shifter with lever itself is generally referred to as a '57-62 piece. Below is what was installed in my '63 back in the 1960s.

Maybe someone has a vintage one that is or was installed on a '63 with a T-10 or an old Hurst catalog?

    Thanks.

I have that exact shifter handle in my 63 and have had it hooked up to both a Borg Warner and a Muncie transmission. It is the old style with the welded on handle and it came with the car. I don't recall if I had to readjust it or not but it shifted fine on either transmission.

Yes, and so is the shifter.

The original Competition Plus shifter design for pre-'63 Corvettes won't fit a '63 and later chassis because the shifter reverse lever hits the exhaust passage left-side "hump" in the cross-member.

Hurst solved this problem by using a shorter dog-leg lever on the shifter for attaching the reverse rod. This second-design shifter will also fit pre-'62 installations if you also use the shorter second-design reverse rod.

The mounting (adapter) plate used for pre-'63 installations is an aluminum casting with part number 2223. This adapter can also be used with '63 and later installations, but it isn't the one Hurst designed for those cars.

The adapter designed for '63 and later Corvettes is steel and has part number 6939 stamped into it. It places the shifter about 1/2" further back and maybe 3/8" higher than the #2223.

I think the later B-W Super T10 requires a #8008 adapter plate for '63 and later installations, but I've never installed a Super T10 myself.

Of course, the transmission levers (arms) and reverse rods are different for the Muncie and B-W transmissions regardless of the body model year.

I realize this sounds confusing and complicated. But, if you'll show me what you have in photos, I can probably talk you through installing it. My Double Top Secret email address is jerrybramlett@comcast.net.
