I'm installing new Lectric Limited reproduction wiring harnesses in 1956 #3080. This car had homemade wiring, so I don't have unaltered original harnesses to guide me. I'm relying on AIM and ST-12 wiring diagrams to show me routing and connections.
I now have all wiring hooked up under the dash and everything working. However, the ammeter was reading backwards when I connected the wiring as shown in the AIM. With the black wires on the gauge terminal closest to the clock, the gauge would show a charge (rather than a discharge) when I turned on the headlights. When I put the red wires on that terminal as shown in the photo below, the gauge showed a discharge with the lights on.

The AIM and ST-12 (photos below) show the wiring connections opposite of the way my gauge needs to work right. I colored the AIM diagram wires as marked.

My aftermarket wiring diagram (shown below) was no help at all.

Are the AIM and ST-12 wiring diagrams wrong, or is my gauge flawed somehow internally?
