Re: Can anyone share some good photos of what 1967 calipers looked like in 1967?
Stephen------
There is no inconsistency if you read my entire post. I said that the calipers were coated/painted. Then, I said that the original calipers on my 1969 were not painted. Then, I said .....I believe that was not typical for the vast majority of 1965-82 Corvettes
As far as why they were painted/coated I said ...probably for rust prevention. Note the word PROBABLY.
Do I consider my car "special" because the calipers were not coated/painted? Not at all but considering that the vast majority were coated/painted, mine is rather unusual and if there was one, there could well be and probably are others. Actually, when I discovered this about 45 years ago I felt kind of deprived. I corrected that after the calipers were sleeved and my calipers have been painted black for the last 45 years.
If you doubt that the calipers were originally painted, all you need do is look carefully at the assembly line photo in the original post here. That's "typical of factory production".
As far as your statement "...if GM worried about rust prevention, then why are the differential and other cast items NOT painted?' Well, one could say, if the frame is coated/painted why wasn't the differential coated/painted? Or, if the trailing arms were painted why wasn't the differential painted? Or, if the a-arms were painted why wasn't the differential painted? Or, if the engine was painted why wasn't the differential painted? Or, if the differential support crossmember was painted why wasn't the differential painted? And, on-and-on.
By the way, the master cylinder on my car was originally painted.
