I went through the threads back to 2002 and couldn't find the answer to the question: "How many Duntov awards have been awarded to date by year of the car?" I know that the Judging Awards section of the website has a total but it doesn't break it down by year.

Re: How many Duntov awards by year?
The last time I saw a breakdown by year was in the 40th Anniversary Restorer done in Summer 2014. I think Vinnie has that info, but back then, for instance, the 1960 had 28 Duntov Awards. The most by far was 1967, at 168, and the least was 1978 and 1980 at 1 each, while 1976, 1979, and 1981 had zero.Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top

Re: How many Duntov awards by year?
Keith, if you keep your Restorer magazines, look in the 40th Anniversary issue from the summer of 2014...pages 18-19 has all the awards broken down by year and award as of then...I haven't updated it nor do I plan to update the spreadsheet but at least you can get an idea

Re: How many Duntov awards by year?
Well, I was able to pull data from the Online Restorers from 2017 to date so that helps but I am missing the records from 2014, 2015 and 2016. Still, I have a pretty good idea of an approximate total.Keith MacRae

Re: How many Duntov awards by year?
Sure Jaime. I'm sorry that I didn't offer to do that. So, the Summer 2014 spreadsheet showed that 28 1960 Corvette owners had achieved the Duntov Mark of Excellence award at the time. Accessing the Restorer Online through the NCRS website, I counted three in 2017, none in 2018, two in 2019, two in 2021 and one this year making a total of at least 36. Add to this figure the number achieving this award in 2014, 2015 and 2016 will give a more accurate number. Unfortunately, I didn't keep the Fall editions of these years so perhaps a member who did can give us the numbers?Keith MacRae

Re: How many Duntov awards by year?
For reasons that I don’t understand, it’s my opinion that some NCRS people in power want to keep some information too close to the vest. For example, when the NCRS National was in San Jose in 2005 (?), I was involved locally in finding cars that were candidates for the American Heritage award, targeting Corvettes with a unique history, such as styling cars, experimental cars, or cars with a factory or vintage racing history. I asked multiple people at the National officer level, who should know the answer, if it was possible to get a list of past American Heritage award cars to see if there might be some award cars (local to the SF Bay Area) from much earlier years that might be displayed again. No one either could tell me if a list existed, or maybe no one was willing to tell me. To this day, I don’t know why that was the case. Nor do I know why there isn’t a spreadsheet that is updated annually with the number of Bowtie cars, the number of Duntov cars, etc., listed by model year. This is not rocket science. But for some reason that information is either kept guarded or not updated and documented annually. Whatever the reason, I don’t understand it. This is our organization, and if that information doesn’t violate some privacy issue, then it seems to me we should be able to see it. Maybe I’m being suspicious where there’s no reason to be. But I just think it would be nice to see that sort of information on a regular basis without having to beg for it, or try to figure it out on our own.
