    Part # question, 'Uni-set' points & condenser

Continuing to clean out stash-o-stuff & found Delco Remy 1852131 (D1002) uni-set points/condenser in red-white-blue paper box labeled 'contact set-condenser pkg". Unable to find this p/n in my paper-copy parts book or on "GM PartsWiki" web service. Looking for application(s) and a reference for same. Contact point sets typically in group 2.384, but no luck there. Maybe these had a different noun like 'matched set', or were only provided in boxes with 10 each? Thanks in advance; I must have had a reason to obtain them back in ancient times ... (or not).

    Jeff,

I recall buying these starting around the mid 1980s for my 1970 base motor Corvette. They fit nicely into the distributor. I believe it was the AC Delco wholesale/retail parts manager who recommended them to me in lieu of buying the separate point set and separate condenser for tune-ups at the time.

The following eBay addr below has an example of the D1002:

From the info gleaned on the website, it appears that they were probably packaged as a group of 10 per box from AC Delco, but I do vividly recall purchasing just a single set from the store.

    Hope this helps!

Uni-Sets came into use in the early 70's and will SERVICE most single point Corvette distributors back to 1962. Strangely, Uni-Set contacts were assigned to parts group 2.393 not 2.384 and, even in the 2.393 group, were never carried in a Corvette P&A catalog. However, they were carried in Delco-Remy catalogs and applicable to most GM point type distributors.

GM #1852131 aka Delco D1001 was a Delco Parts System-only item and, apparently, was the part number for the 10 unit package. Strange, though, that part number is shown on the individual boxes in the unit. But, Delco did do some weird things with these "multi unit packs".

The Uni-Set that was available through the GM parts system although not catalogued for a Corvette application was GM #1975000 which was discontinued in July, 1974 and replaced by GM #1876600 aka Delco D1007. Delco catalogs these for most Chevrolet and other GM applications and they will work perfectly in 1962-74 Corvette distributors except dual point and FI.

So, what are these GM #1852131 aka Delco D-1002? As far as I can tell they are the same as the 1876600 EXCEPT they use a screw-type wire lead contact rather than the "push-in" type used for the 1876600.

Thanks, Joe. Do you expect they are 106P equivalents with regard to breaker arm tension, contact area, et al? Looks like nylon cam follower; patent # 3646301 stamp on frame/chassis.

          Jeff------

Yes, I believe they would be equivalent to the D106P but I have no actual specs to confirm that.

              Mike------

Yes, the internal shields must be removed in order to use the Uni-Sets. However, instructions were once supplied with the Uni-Sets to remove the shield, if present. The instructions went on to state that the shield was unnecessary with the Uni-Set installed.
