Hello. I recently had my 40,000 mile unrestored (I owned it since 1984 but never judged) 1965 Corvette flight judged and I lost the points for the windshield wipers. The arms were correct I was told, however I was told the blade and holder were replacements. I understood about the rubber dots, since refills would be expected in 55+ years, but it was not apparent to me that the holders were said to be replaced. The holders were correctly square and overall looked correct according to the judging manual that I recently bought (I should have bought it before the car was judged, my mistake!), but the only difference from the judging manual that I could see is that they did not have TRICO stamped on the ends. I noted that all the replacements I observed were domed shaped or tapered, not square, and had TRICO with "Made in USA" stamped underneath TRICO. The ones on my car look just like original ones without the TRICO. The blades that are on my car had all the correct shapes but not the TRICO stamp, and to me looked like they were never off the arm with the same amount of patina as the arm. I could find no replacements that even looked like the originals should in adds on eBay or an internet search so I'm wondering if these are really replacements. Additionally, according to the Judging manual, the TRICO windshield wiper blade holders (15") for '65 should have the flat top (which they do) with squared side configuration (also) and are polished (yes). This is exactly how they appear. HOWEVER, very importantly, the clip that attaches to the wiper arm has THE CORRECT MARKINGS of 3056160 and CAN. 63 stamped on one of the side faces and PAT. 2752626 and 2807822 stamped on the opposite face JUST LIKE ORIGINALS are supposed to have. I am at a loss what to do. I have been looking for "original" ones, but I would prefer not to replace them if this is an anomaly that other cars may have had. Any help would be very appreciated! Thank you

Jimmy,
You might have missed Victor’s problem. He got a deduct for his non-Trico holders, so in his experience all is not OK.
Victor, absent sufficient evidence that non-Trico branded holders have been found on multiple original cars, I predict you will not be successful in pleading your case. In my opinion, the only reliable course of action is to find holders that will pass muster according to the JG. One possible source of holders is Steve Walker in New Mexico. His contact info is:

Thank you for the info Gary. I'm not making a big deal about it, but it is strange. I was hoping someone else had the same issue. It all looks correct except for the missing Trico stamp.- Top

Re: 1965 Wiper blade holder strange anomaly?
In his case I suspect the flat part was never stamped The attachment clip was stamped and has the correct markings. Judges need to think instead of reading a book sometime After many junking trips with John Pirkle, and the stories he tells Anything could happen and probably did
In manufacturing different machines were used to make the same part and they are not absolutely identical. If you have ever worked in a manufacturing environment as I did as an Engineer, you would understand that things happen.Founder - Carolinas Chapter NCRS- Top

Jimmy- your points are all good and valid. But, do not answer OPs questions which were; has anyone ever seen known OEM original holders like his. And what should he do. Have you ever seen known OEM original holders like his? You've seen a lot of parts. I'm guessing you haven't. As for what OP should do. I think the context of the question is in regards to flight judging. As you know, judges evaluate based on what research has shown is typical factory production, which has been documented in the TIM&JGs.. On that basis, these holders were called SR- Not Typical. That is a correct call. Does that mean OP must replace them, or should replace them? No, in future judging, he can simply accept the comment, or at most 1 point deduction, and smile, and keep his car as original as he believes it to be.- Top

That is exactly what I did. This was no big deal but I thought it was strange what with all the other markings correct after I got home and got the manual. I was wondering if anyone else had the same issue. Thanks Everyone.- Top

Valid points and yes I have seen some non stamped ones before Relatively easy Item to change. Just like the reversed image head marked bolts Not all GM parts are made on the same machine by the same person - who never made a mistake by the wayFounder - Carolinas Chapter NCRS- Top

Re: 1965 Wiper blade holder strange anomaly?
Call the Trico plant in Brownsville TX (956)544-2722 and see if they can help. Maybe they will stamp it. Worth a try. When I lived in Harlingen, my neighbor was a supervisor there. I have lost contact with him though.- Top
