C2 A/C C60 Car Window Glass Survey

Over the years I've seen on some Corvette Forums that when you ordered A/C C60, the option for a coupe included a tinted rear window(s). I've been through the AIM several times and can not locate any GM documentation to confirm the inclusion of the tinted rear Window(s) with C60.

I've also see a C60 car without tinted rear Window(s). The glass could have been replaced over time or a mistake on the line. This car was built around July 19th, 1963.

A question is, has anyone seen GM documentation confirming the tinted rear window(s) was included on a C60 car?

The survey question is, does anyone have a C60 car that they believe the rear window(s) are original and the glass is not tinted?

Hi Harry,

Not that Noland Adams is “GM”, but his work was pretty thorough as far as I can tell.
In his Volume 2 book – the last sentence on page 214 above the photo of the center console - he states the following:

“Beginning with the 1964 model year, coupes with C60 came with tinted rear window. ^8,17“

Footnote 8 for 1964 states, “1964 Corvette production parts list.”
Footnote 17 is merely an example '64 from his surveys showing a rear tinted window for VIN (last 5) 18417

On page 215 he goes on to state, “Tinted windshields and side windows were separate options. A 1964-67 Corvette coupe with a tinted rear window and a clear (untinted) windshield and side windows may seem an impossible combination, but it has been substantiated by Chevrolet production records⁸, and examples from every year.⁶²”

Footnote 8 is the same as noted above.
I could not find a footnote # 62, so I don’t know what that may have said about this issue.

So, I would deduce because he does not include 1963 in his discussion, it seems possible (probable ?) to me that a rear tinted coupe window with C60 may not have been required for 1963's (?). Perhaps complaints from '63 coupe A/C customers resulted in the change of the parts list for '64 and beyond...all speculation on my part.

My buddy's Duntov late June C60 coupe came with tinted rear glass.

Mark, I saw that. It is also mentioned in the 1963 section. The 1963 sections points to the 1964 section. The two 1963 C60 coupes in Frisco last week only had the rear windows tinted.

I am fairly certain John Hinckly once wrote only coupes got the rear window tinted for C60 cars and the rear was optional.

Option A01 was tinted side glass and A02 was tinted windshield.
