    All Star pit crew.

Most NCRS members will recognize the All star pit crew that
K C and I had on our land speed 56 Corvette. It is hard to
Believe that it has been 9 years since we last ran at Bonneville.
I just put it in the Antique car museum in Hershey Pa. Today.
Their race car display will last for about 4 months.

The crew was always ready with proper refreshment when we returned to the pits.

Do remember any specifics of when your car ran?
Such as year, class, or speed.

Yeah, what class, what was your speed and what was the record at the time? Great looking and seriously prepared car!

I helped a friend with engine system engineering on his '88 Fiero V-6 at about the same time. At his first Bonneville event with the stock engine he went about 118 in fourth (out of five) at 5000 with 760 rev per mile 225/70VR-15 tires. but he wanted to go faster. After explaining to him that required power increases with the CUBE of speed and what he could do on his budget we set an objective of 130, so we needed about one-third more power at 500 more revs.

He was an excellent fabricator, so using the Engine Analyzer engine simulation program we designed a new inlet manifold using a spare to cut up and modify with short runners and retarded the OE cam four degrees since the few aftermarket choices didn't offer much. He removed the heads for massaging, but the short block remained original with a CR of only about 8.5:1 He also fabricated a very nice tubular exhaust system with a removable muffler since he drove the car up to Bonneville and back from LA.

Before and after chassis dyno tests showed that the engine had the necessary approximately one third increase in peak power at 5500 to increase speed by ten percent and damned if he didn't make a two-way average of about 131 at about 5500.

The weather gods were with him as conditions were ideal with light winds and a relatively low density altitude for August. Based on the Bonneville veterans I've talked to over the years weather conditions are often a big spoiler.

He was in a "stock" sports car (two-seater) class of some kind, under three liters. He had no ambition of breaking the class record of about 150 held by a Ferrari 308, but we figured he had the world's fastest Fiero.

We were both very pleased with the results.

In it's original configuration that 2.8 liter pushrod V-6 with the long runner EFI manifold was real torquey. With the mods for more top end power I warned him that it would probably be a dog down low and it was, but he said that was okay as long as he met the speed objective, which he did.

No, it was probably early '80s and was owned by the previous owner, Marty McDonough. I do have time sheets that showed a top speed of 154 MPH. It has a 3.08 rear end ratio.

Duke, We ran in B gas Modified Sports class. It is an aluminum 415 engine with 770 hp. Natural aspirated. We were required
To run a cage similar to a funny car. We had no desire to go after the BGMS record because it was in the 250 Mph range.
Our goal was to run a C1 Corvette over 200 Mph which we accomplished in 2013. Our top speed was 206 Mph. We will never
Get a top flight award with the 56, but Oh well.
