    fusible link question

    Hello,

Yesterday I got the answer to what the black dots mean on the wiring schematic. They are fusible links. I should have realized that! The two I am searching an answer to are in both wires to and from the ammeter gauge. Does anyone know what the amp values are for those two links?
Right now I do not have the resources to replace the whole wiring harness, so I had planned to run a temporary new pair of wires from the gauge to the two connection points. Do I need to use fuses in them? Probably, as GM felt they needed to put them in. Wish they would have used replaceable fuse though! I just need to know what size fuses to use!

    Thanks,
    Bill

This is an article concerning the fusible links on a 67 Chevrolet.
1967 Corvette: Chevrolet PartsMart: Fusible Links - Below is an excellent source of information from Chevrolet PartsMart in February 1967 on how to diagnose the fusible links on 1967 Corvettes. It lists the correct wire colors and their gauges.

Fusible links are available from Auto parts dealers.

Steve thank you for this article. I will check with my local parts stores tp see if they carry this stuff for old cars. If so, it might be what I need to make the band aid fix I wrote in my question.
Surely, I would like to replace the harnesses, but right now I don't have a spare $1400 available. I don't drive the car much, but it needs to get out and exercised. I don't like doing that when I don't know if the battery is charging. My guess is the problem really lies at the fire wall connection. I bought the car in 1975 and the previous owner must have had a battery problem, blowing acid onto the firewall. It is an AC car, so the battery is right near the back of the fuse block. The plug that has these two wires in it has been functioning, but the other plug must have been damaged and rather than replacing the harnesses, they took the car to a shop and they cut the plug off and crimp connected the matching wires together! Hence, for me to fully fix the problem would require redong all of the harnesses! Eventually yes, but not right now!
