Change After Market/Non-OEM Disc Front Brakes to Original Drum Brakes on '64 Roadster

    Hello All--

For several reasons I wish to convert the "after-market/non-OEM" front disc brake modification that a prior owner installed on my 1964 Roadster, back to the "original" GM/Chevrolet drum brake set-up. 1). What parts would I require; and, what supplier/vendor might have these parts? (I want to use GM/AC-Delco/Chevrolet components; and preferably, no reproduction parts. Good used or restored parts would be "ok" as applicable.) Thank you in advance for your assistance/response(s) to my questions.

No responses, so I will attempt to list the required parts that I can determine: '64 Power Brake Booster (complete assembly); '64 Master Cylinder Mount; '64 Power Brake Master Cylinder (with bleeder); Proportioning Valve(?); '64 Front Brake Line kit. NO CLUE what is required for front wheels/front brake assemblies--help please. Anyone know of a complete kit for what I am trying to attempt?? Thanks in advance.

There are guys on the Corvette Forum who are converting '63-'64s to front disks. Generally you remove the entire steering knuckle from the car that includes all the drum brake hardware... pretty much as this assembly arrived at St. Louis and replace it with the disk brake knuckle and disk brake hardware.

So what do they do with these removed knuckles with all the attached drum brake hardware? There's not much of a market for them, so go over there and you can probably find some cheap.

        Hi Duke--

Thank you very much for the information!! I now have a good understanding of what will be involved with the restoration of the front brake system. I will check for the parts locally, albeit, two (2) of my good sources have closed their businesses; then I will check out the Corvette Forum as you recommend. Again, I very much appreciate the information and recommendation. Happy Friday!

            Rob,

Look in the latest issue of Driveline. I just saw an ad for someone selling a 63-64 front drum brake set-up.

                Rob,

The ad is on Page 31. Seller is George Barker. The setup does not include drums. But it may be a good start.

                    To All--
I thought I would "close the loop" on this post. I was extremely fortunate, and was able to source all of the "required" 1964 front wheel drum brake parts locally, thanks to our Rocky Mountain NCRS Technical Advisor, Mr Gary Steffens, Corvette City, (303) 762-8388.
I very much appreciated the responses and support that I received.
