    67 protect-o-plate question

    I'm trying to decode a 67 P-O-P.
My first question is does the vin/serial number of the car appear on the plate?

    Thanks

Absolutely, it has to. The POP was issued for Warranty paper work processing purposes. Without a VIN and a Delivery date GM wasn't paying the dealer for parts and labor claimed as Warranty.

        William,
My '69 GM Corvette Production Manual shows at UPC 0, B3 the "Customer Vehicle Protect-O-Plate". It's page J25 in the '69 book. Includes all the codes used on the P-O-P, their location, and their definitions. If you have a '67 production manual, pop it open and you might find one, IDK.

If you want to cover the last five digits of the VIN we can decode it for you with a picture.

Hold it up to a mirror and take a picture of the reflection in the mirror...it will reverse everything so that you can easily read the characters. Post up a picture of the mirror image.

                Re: 67 protect-o-plate question

First let me say thank you to everyone for the quick & detailed responses.

I'm questioning if the POP which is being described by the seller to me is even for the car or even a Corvette for that matter.

I don't have a photo but info is as follows.

                E SS 164697J145176 R
                V1031HC GQ1103G K
                T7R28 3 3 4

That does not belong to a Corvette. It could be that they purchased it for the glove box packet for judging, I've used generic ones in the past for that reason.

That won't help you with a car you're looking at purchasing.

The VIN 164697J145176 on the POP you are asking about translates 16467= 4 door Impala V8 J= Janesville WI.

                      Huh, and it's a Halloween small block V1031HC w/ a Rochester carb R
                      with a November build date ? K
and an Oct 28 trans code ? R28

that is if the coding is the same as what I posted from the Corvette AIM...

                        Leif -

When I want to "reverse image" of a POP I am deciphering, I use http://flipapicture.com/

Download picture and drag it to the choose file box.

Really easy to use on my files or ones I find on the internet and download to study

Here is the one from above that I copied and flipped.

                        Brad

                          Leif and Brad,

Both Excel and Word can also flip pictures horizontally and/or vertically.

                          Click on an image (either in Word or Excel);
go to "Picture Format" at the very top right of the ribbon and click on it
over to the right you'll see a "Rotate" button with 2 triangles in it.
click that and the pull down menu shows "Flip Horizontal" and "Flip Vertical"
you can also do custom rotations if your original image if it was cockeyed or skewed in some way

sorry about the grainy resolution, but that's the way it came over from my screenshot...

Flip Horizontal or Vertical in Word and Excel(1)_001.jpg
                          thx,
                          Mark

I used to be able to flip Warranty Plates easily as an option when I had a picture pulled up. I did an update, and that option went away.
