I was wondering if you could use the tire foam which is a open cell flexible foam used in heavy equipment, they allow nails etc to go into the tire but the tire doesn't lose shape.

My brother, who also currently works for Firestone... put tubes in his firestone 500's on his survivor 73 for the regionals last year.

And how does a judge tell there is a tube in the tire?

There should be a deduction for the tube valve stem.

I still have the 500's that came on my '77 in the garage. All blown but thankfully when stored in the garage.🤞

If these tires are really that dangerous I'm shocked there are still those who support requiring them on cars for full points, especially for a PV where I guess the car has to be driven? As an organization I would hope that safety would take priority in this aspect. Imagine the headlines if a tragedy occurred during one of those test drives. I guess then we would finally get a rules change.

They are not required for a PV. Any OEM (repop OK) tire for the given year is acceptable.

In addition to being an OE "brand", don't they have to be of the same construction as OE, which means bias ply up to '72?.

Yes, bias ply tires up to and including 1972s.
1973s and later catch a break because they can use radials.

Danny, These Firestone 500's Were DOT.

Just because it was DOT or not dot - one cannot make reference they are any good.

and... the ford's have Firestone lineage, no wonder they got to be known as fix or repair daily. I can say I experienced the 500 blowouts back then, and in 2000 ford would repeat it with another faulty firestone tire

...this wasn't the first time Firestone got it wrong as they did it again with the early Ford Explorers, which people started nicknaming "Ford Exploders".
...I remember an instance where a guy was having his '73 convertible judged out a Bloomington Gold(early 2000s) and he thought(assumed)that he had to have the OEM 500's on for the Survivor Road Tour and both his front tires exploded. I remember the car on the judging field shortly after and it was a horrible sight.
...when I bought my '75 coupe decades ago, when I went to get the spare tire out, it had expanded to the point where it took me awhile just to get it out of the spare tire tub!!! It was super wedged in there!!!
