The alternator on my 1965 needs to be replaced or restored. The car has a build date of January 31, 1965. The alternator has the code 4H27 which I believe translates to August 27, 1964. I assume it's original to the car, but wonder if an August alternator belongs in a January car. I'm sure my friends at NCRS can enlighten me. Thanks in advance.

Re: Alternator date code number
Roger,
The date is within the six month window of date acceptance, so you should be fine. Post up a clear picture of the numbers on your alternator and we can tell you if it's a re-stamp. Sounds like you may have your original.Leif

Re: Alternator date code number
Roger do you want it restored? or just repaired. Most of the time all you need is brushes and change the bearings while you are at it. blow out the windings and spray with insulating varnish and you are good to go.- Top

Re: Alternator date code number
Roger,
If you're going the restoration route, I can personally recommend Ken Bruno @ Ken Bruno Motorsports. He has done my original alternator and my original starter. Absolutely first class workmanship.
We specialize in Corvette and other GM Muscle Car Show Quality Delco Alternator, Starter and Generator Restorations.
If you just need your alternator repaired (no stamps on diodes, etc), you should be able to find a local alternator/generator repair shop to do the job if you're not comfortable doing it yourself.Leif
