I have been using VHT SP998 paint for knock off wheel restoration, guess what, not available anywhere I can find. Is there a better substitute or are others using a different color/brand.

I have 4 cans from ZIP's allocation on order since late July. They are supposed to arrive at ZIP the first week of October. I doubt they will arrive then, but I'm not in a hurry for them as restoring my '65 knock-off will be a winter project.

I called ZIP yesterday to get an update on my VHT SP-998 cast iron gray paint that I ordered from them on 7/29/22. They said that it's going to be a while before they get it and asked if I wanted to keep my order on "back order" with them to which I replied yes. I'm sure that it is sitting on a ship somewhere waiting to be unloaded. Glad I'm not in a hurry to get it.
To answer your question about a suitable replacement paint coating, no there isn't anything I've found that is close to the VHT SP998 cast iron paint. Ive done four sets of knock-off wheels and have always used the VHT paint at the recommendation of fellow member Bill Wilhelm who gave me the directions on how to refinish the wheels many years ago.
