Here is a photo of a Black PF51 that was removed from a 1995 with a build date of November 1994. The Blue PF 52 began to appear in December 1994 for the 1995 model.

My original owner early 1992 LT1 was originally equipped with a black oil filter like the one pictured. However, I was at the 1992 NCRS National Convention in Warren, MI and in connection with that toured the Flint engine plant. As I recall, the plant was still building some 1992 engines but was also starting production of 1993 model year engines. At that time I saw a pallet bin full of BLUE PF-51 oil filters. Since the Corvette LT1 was the only engine built at Flint that used the PF-51 oil filter, these filters had to be destined for those engines.

Since we were surprisingly allowed to take photos on that tour and I shot every roll of film I had in the plant, I may even have a photo of that pallet bin and its filters. However, I'm in Italy right now and even when I get home finding those photos will be a challenge I may not be up to.

This is the one I created for my 11/94 build date car. The car has not receive a deduction for this filter.

As a reference point, I saw video of a 1995 Red Coupe delivered with a delivery date of early December, go right from the truck and into the dealer for prepping. When it went up on the lift, it had a blue oil filter. I believe the car had a late November build date.

Uncle Pat and I have discussed this at length.

Re: 1994 LT1 oil filter BLACK anybody have photo of silver label ??

Folks, I want to clarify the photos of oil filters that I submitted to this thread. The first one was of the Black PF51. I obtained this oil filter from the original owner. He was a Corvette Salesman and took delivery of his 1995 LT1 in November of 1994. At the first oil change he kept the original oil filter and later on I obtained it from it along with other parts. Regarding the Blue PF52, I also obtained it from the original owner who kept it after the first oil change. In reference to the video Ed mentioned it shows the delivery of a Torch Red 1995 LT1 in December 1994 with a December 1994 Build Date. The video is really interesting in that it shows the Corvette being taken off the delivery truck and immediately taken by the lady of the house for a ride around the dealership's parking lot before it even went into the dealership for prep. The video shows the Corvette in the shop and on a lift. As it is on the lift you can plainly see the Blue Oil Filter. At the first oil change the original kept the oil filter and I obtained it from him for my stuff. You can see the Julian Date Code on the bottom of the Blue PF52. It reads 27743 and OE. The Jullian date (277) translates to October 1 and the 4 represents 1994. I do not know what the number 3 represents, perhaps the third shift. Also, you can see the OE for original equipment.
Another interesting thing about this Blue PF52 oil filter is the white dot on the front. I am told that this represents an inspection mark indicating that the oil filter was tightened.
This information has been discussed with the C4 Judging Boss and it will be addressed in the revised 1994-96 Judging Manual.
Dave is correct that the current 1994-96 manual does not agree with this information, but it is under review.
            I hope this helps.

ALL- your input is very much appreciated, and to those who put countless hours in to the Judging Guide we are in debt to you.
I have a 95 ZR-1 vin#3 got a 99 plus at Palm Springs National last year, no travel points- and yes, I even caught a few errors in judging after the fact ( and many hours of research) but overall excellent judging. The availability of NEW NOS parts for the ZR-1 far exceeds what is available for my 94 LT-1 convertible. The ZR-1 was a instant collector and guys stocked up on spare parts. A normal 94 convertible, few got put away as zero mile collectors let alone parts. Try finding a black PF-51, or original Goodyears, or battery, good luck. Lets continue to work on these retaliative late model Corvettes, one of these days they will be valued. THANKS Bob

If one is searching for an NOS black PF-51, one will never find one as they were a PRODUCTION-only piece. Same thing for batteries. PRODUCTION-line batteries were usually slightly different than SERVICE batteries. Not that it much matters with batteries, though, as these batteries were wet-charged and I'm sure that every one is long dead.

By the way, speaking of batteries, Corvette group 75 batteries, PRODUCTION or SERVICE, were different than other group 75 batteries. The common group 75 was 75A. Corvette used group 75B. The only difference was that the Delco Eye was on the opposite side to be visible in the Corvette installation. As I recall, ZR1's used a different group 75 suffix. In SERVICE I'm sure most Corvettes ended up with a group 75A since the 75B was special order.

I realize that I have submitted a very narrow example of the oil filters, but it was the best I could provide under what I had available. If anyone else can add to the discussion, please do. I provided a photo that was requested and thought I could help out as I knew what the 94-96 judging manual stated concerning these oil filters.
