    69 front alignment shims

My car has a mis mash of alignment shims. Do these look like the correct shims? Are they supposed to be plated or natural color?

Those do NOT resemble the front alignment shims as shown in the 1968-69 TIM&JG 6th Edition, Page 253, Fig. Ch 8.61.

Thanks Terry. I stopped reading at page 221. Now know to look further in the timjg. Are the correct ones available?

I am sorry, I don't now about their availability. I hope others here can help you with that.

          Mark,

the vendors sell shims that are similar, but not identical to the factory shims.

The shims in your picture appear to be C4 shims. C3 shims ('69) come in at least three thicknesses with part numbers: 3751282, 3751284 & 3751348. Originals and NOS occasionally pop up on ebay. They can also usually be found at any large swap meet. They can also be easily obtained from the vendors that sell original hardware.

If you're looking to have the car judged one day, you probably only need 4 of the original shims, as long as the rest of the shims are shaped similar to the original shims. The four original shims should be placed last on the inbound side of each upper control arm setting so that the original marking can be seen. I believe I've heard of them as being referred to by some as Indian arrow markings because that's what it looks like as can be seen in the TIMJG on page 253 that Terry referenced above. Only the outermost shim can be seen as the rest are obscured by the shim in front of it. At least it seems that way to me, but I've never been a judge so not 100% certain about that. Maybe others can weigh in.

Thanks Michael. My 1977 parts book only lists one size. I'll order some and see what shows up.

Mark, I can send you all the shims you may want in the original configuration. What thickness's & how many do you need and an address.

                      Re: 69 front alignment shims

Scott, thank you for the generous offer. Problem is, I don't know what I need because I haven't aligned the car since the 80's and I can't get the car on the alignment rack at work. I'm looking for someone with a flush to the ground alignment rack short of a porsche/bmw/mb dealer. I'll measure the current ones and maybe 2 more of each? Let me know what I owe you, if for noting else, shipping. When I get home tonight I'll count up what shims I have.
