We own 1957 Corvette VIN number E57S105417. NCRS estimates that our Corvette was assembled approximately July 23rd 1957. The engine block casting number is 3731548; this is the correct engine block casting number for a 1957 Corvette 283 c.i. engine. The engine block casting date is F47, indicating that the engine block was cast on June 4th, 1957. All of this indicates that this could be the original engine. However, the cylinder heads were resurfaced, and the pad forward of the passenger side cylinder head has swirl marks, and only one very partial digit. I would like to know if GM or Chevrolet has records of the engine assembly identification stamping if the VIN number is known. Our Corvette is the 270 hp version with 2 x 4 carburetors, 4-speed transmission and solid lifters. If anyone has any information that could help me it would be much appreciated!

Re: Engine Assembly Identification Stamping
Ronald, Sadly, Chevrolet has no records to help. Since the assembly stamp pad has been decked it's hard to recover. Some have suggested using a chemical(acid, etc) to try to recover some shadows of the stamping. More input from those who've done that would be welcomed.
