    427 Valve Seal Shelf Life

Hello, I have an original set of #3964264 valve keeper/seals and am going to replace valve seals on my 1966. Any opinions on the shelf life of these seals as I cannot remember how long I have had them. They all appear as new; however, would I be better off installing a new set of Mahle # SS45296 seals? Thanks in advance for any and all input.

I would not use the old ones unless you want to do the job twice, go with the new ones. It would be like driving on old tires waiting for them to blow out.

That PN is the is the valve spring cap and its seal. I don't believe new OEM caps are available, so they are gold. Get a set of seals and snap them on your new caps.

        John,
I have a full set of VS-708 springs, original caps and the Felpro seal kit #SS72513 if you're interested.

You can only use these valve spring cap/seals if your engine has been upgraded with the GM dual valve springs (or Sealed Power VS-708). If you have original valve springs with single spring and damper, you cannot use these valve spring cap/seals you have. However, if your engine has not been upgraded to the dual valve springs, you should do it. The original single spring with damper are highly prone to breakage with sometimes catastrophic results.

I think I would probably replace the plastic seals on the 3964264 if I were going to use them. These are available from Fel-Pro for about 30 bucks a set.

Hello Justin and Joe, thank you for the time to respond. I installed a new set of VS 708 springs with new 3964264 retainers and all worked out great. The retainers were brand new, and I installed them with the plastic seals. Again, thank all of you for your responses, John
